Diet Research 2009

I was researching ways to loose weight on the internet when I came across an article about HCG. What the heck is this, I had never heard of this diet before. So I decided to google this term. There were many sites that claimed loose 40 pounds in 40 days. I said to myself this is another crackpot diet where people are trying to make a quick buck on fools that are desperate to loose weight.

Then I came across a site on youtube...a woman who had documented her weight loss utilizing this diet. I watched her vlogs over and over....and I watched other vlogs on youtube of men and women who had documented their journey on this diet. These people seemed logical, not crackpots, and had great success with their diet journey and actually had kept their weight off. They did not buy fad diets that had you buying meals delivered to your door, they did not spend thousands of dollars, they did not have surgery.

The more research I did, the more I listened to the stories of those people who were brave enough to document their journey, I decided to give this a try. Figured that if it did not work, no harm, but it was worth a try.

This was the beginning of my journey on the HCG Protocol.

1. I ordered the HCG from a pharmacy in India - decided to do sublingual rather than injections as I do not like needles. Ordered 5000 iu to complete the 43 day program.

2. I ordered b12 and collidal silver for sublingual use.

3. I ordered the mixing syringes and dosage syringes from a website.

4. I printed the original HCG protocol written by Dr. Simeon and read and read and read again and again.

5. I went to the store and bought makeup that was mineral based and oil free based and bought aloe vera gel to use for my skin.

Then I waited about 3 weeks to get the HCG from the pharmacy in India. While waiting I decided on a date to start and continued to research on the internet.

My Weight Gain Begins With Menopause

I have never before posted a personal experience on a blog.

I do not know if this blog will be read, but I share my thoughts so women having similar frustration with weight gain and after menopause read this....

I was born in 1953 and am a 56 year old woman in very good health. No prescription medications, never did drugs, never drank alcohol. My weight was always pretty stable. I weighed between 117 - 122 for most of my adult life. I am 5' 4". The only time I weighed more was when I was pregnant and lost the pregnancy weight within 4 - 5 months after the births. I was not an athletic person, am still not athletic, but was able to eat normally and not put on weight.....

Then menopause started in 2002 when I was 48 years old. The first 2 years of menopause were pretty yucky! Night sweats, light headed, anxiety, and hot flashes during the day. My OBGYN wanted to give me the hormonal drugs. Researched these hormonal drugs and they are pretty scary, so decided not to use them. Figured I'd just go through the process naturally and if it got really bad would reassess usage of hormones.

2004 - the menopause symptoms started to subside substantially...and my weight started to move up on the scale. I was 120 pounds in the beginning of 2004. By December of 2004 I was 125 pounds. Not alot of weight, but 5 pounds was just the beginning of my weight gain after menopause.

2005 - menopause symptoms were gone..I was so thankful for this. I was 125 pounds at the beginning of 2005. By December of 2005 I was 130 pounds. Never weighed this much in my entire life. And I felt the weight when I moved, my clothing was tight. Decided to go on the Atkins diet. I lost 10 pounds and was back down to 120 pounds by the beginning of 2006. Felt good, no more menopause symptoms, however started to have some fat in my stomach area - was always flat as a board in my stomach. My doctor said that this is called the menopot and is normal, as women loose hormones and collect fat in the belly.

2006 - Menopause symptoms no more, back down to 120 pounds in January, a little belly fat. No problem...so I thought. From January of 2006 - December of 2006 I gained 15 pounds. I was now 135 pounds and felt horrible. I tried the Atkins diet again in 2006, had no luck. I tried the South Beach diet in 2006, had no luck. I bought a treadmill and started walking 45 minutes a day, no weight loss. I watched what I ate - no sweets, no carbs, lighter meals, no luck. I was now 135 pounds at the end of 2006, and no matter what I did to manage my weight, nothing worked.

2007 - Menopause symptoms no more, 135 pounds, more belly fat, no luck with any weight program, no luck with working out. I decided that okay, I am 53 years old now that it is January 2007, its probably my age, and I will just live with the extra weight and buy new clothes. I will watch what I eat, get enough sleep, keep good eating habits, and keep walking 45 minutes a day. I am in good health, no illness, no medications. From January of 2007 - December of 2007 I gained an additional 5 pounds. YUCK!!! I was now 140 pounds by the end of the year.

2008 - 140 pounds, more belly fat, new clothes for my heavier weight, and feeling heavy and bloated and not at all happy with my weight. I decided that this extra weight would have to go. I was determined in 2008 to get back down to 120 -125 pounds. I would cut out all fruit as the natural sugar was possibly the culprit, no sweets, not carbs, very little fat. Throughout 2008 I really watched what I ate, and even started an eating journal so that I would be able to count calories. Figured out my BMI so I would know what caloric intake was correct.....NO LUCK. By the end of 2008 I was now at 143 pounds and my new clothes were now tight, I was frustrated, and my menopot was getting bigger.......WHAT WAS HAPPENING. Is this supposed to happen to a woman after menopause? Is gaining weight normal for a woman that is 50 something?

2009 - 143 pounds, more belly fat, new clothes are now tight, feel heavy and bloated, now walking on the treadmill 1 hour per day, almost starving myself cause everything I eat seems to be going to my butt, stomach and thighs as more pounds. From January 2009 through July 2009 I gained another 6 pounds.....weight now 149 pounds with no end in site....THIS IS HORRIBLE. I started researching on the internet about weight gain and menopause. Everything I read stated that this is normal, expect to gain weight, you are older. Then there were the herbal supplements touting this and that, and of course the diet drugs that were sold on websites. I kept researching and researching and researching, and then I found an article that possibly made some logical sense to me....I will discuss this in my next blog.
